VO1HAX (Brandon) Communicating the 'Old' Way.
First I will start off with what I think the future of Google Wave will hold. After watching the Google Wave Developer Preview video, I know that the release of Google Wave is going to bring a whole new level of communication to the world, which we have never seen before. This is going to, drastically, enhance productivity.
Being able to log in from around the world via an Internet browser on your computer or phone, without extensive and large client software applications, will make it easier, faster, and more enjoyable for it's users to interact in real time and make critical decisions.
For businesses this will save time and money because it is instantaneous. Now different groups will be able work together to ensure that their project works with other group's projects and different people from the same groups will be able to interact with the same data at the same time without having to save the project, close it, download changes, and then reopen it.
Let's say you are working on a project and you leave the office and in the elevator (15 floors down) you remember something you forgot. Now you don't have to worry about going back up or forgetting it, just take out your phone and update the Wave instantly.
When you have completed the project, you have the option of adding the boss to that Wave and they can then see the progress by viewing changes, one step at a time or by one individual at a time. For business owners and managers it will allow them to find out where each idea comes from and then be able to assign different tasks to different individuals based on that information. Maybe you'll get a raise out of it!
I want Google Wave to see how I can apply it to my every day life. I am a 21 year old student (Electrical Engineering) and can see how Google Wave will be able to help me out with group projects in University and in the workplace.
To introduce it into schools will give students a tool that have never had before. Just as it will in the workplace, it will enable students to work together in projects and also with other schools and professionals in real time.
Let's say one of your partners is sick at home and your project is due tomorrow. Now Google Wave lets you work together without sending emails, instant messages, or running complicated collaboration software. Everything you need is right at your fingertips (computer or phone).
Students love their phones, so on that hour long bus ride home you can now work on your Wave.
Now, as to what I will use it for, only time will tell. With the countless possibilities of Google Wave and new APIs being created, however I can fit it into my life, I will! Being Open Source will allow endless contribution from the public.
If there is a feature that is needed, but it's not there, developers can create it to suit their needs. Also, third parties can use Google's source to add privacy for their users. If you want to keep a project within the company, just send it to users on your server, but when you are ready to release it, you can easily share it with outside users.
I think Google Wave is going to go above and beyond the expectations of it's creators and the public.
